On the positive side, it was virus free.
Also on the positive side, as of today it is working on my Vista.
On the negative side, may I add something negative about Microsoft and Skype?
As of 3/3/17 Skype is run by a dictator. At the helm of Microsoft there
is an arrogant, overpaid Eastern Indian-born nobody who totally disregards
the needs of paying Skype customers like me with Vista. And when you go
to skype.com, the "community" of that site is censored, edited, supervised,
and periodically made useless. Pages are missing. Links are broken. It's
no help to you at all. Also, if you escalate the issue and go to skype's
customer service, you find it is just another "no service customer service".

As for Windows Vista, I plan to make a special webpage where you can download Skype for this OS. Meanwhile please note that there exists a special installer of Skype for Windows Vista, and I recommend downloading it. Please see Skype installer for Windows (as you can see at Microsoft still care about Windows XP and Vista users).
About discontinuing old versions, I published a notice here We’ve signed you out because you’re using an outdated version of Skype. In defense of Microsoft I want to say that there exists paid software that does the same thing (i.e., disable support for old versions). So, while Skype is free and provide great features I don’t see almost anything wrong to move forward and keep it up-to-date (sure, this doesn’t mean that old operating systems should be dropped or they need to disable any useful features).
As I am constantly watching Skype community I cannot agree with you about “censoring” (however, I consider that spam, malicious stuff and insults should be deleted in any way). And please don’t forget that most community members are people like you and me, which help others to solve Skype troubles.
I totally agree that Skype support is “reliably hidden” and is not so easy to contact them even if you need to report or ask something related to paid features or security things. This is why I “compiled” this page Skype Support.
I hope I can always help people to stay connected with family and friends, but in fairness, all the glory belongs to Skype.
