Let’s say you created a group chat in Skype, but you left it accidentally or intentionally and accordingly, you can no longer manage it. Nevertheless, what if you want to restore the administrator role in this chat?

The answer to this question depends on whether you can join the chat again as a regular user, and whether the chat room remained without an administrator. In other words, you cannot independently restore administrator privileges if there are other administrators in the chat room or for some reason you cannot return to the chat.

Therefore, the process of recovering administrator role consists of two stages:

1. Join the chat.
   This can be done in different ways:
   • In Skype for Windows, right-click on the name of the chat, choose “Copy link”, paste the URL that has the format join.skype.com/identifier in the browser address bar, open the page and confirm that you want to open it in Skype. If everything is done correctly, when Skype starts up, you will see the following message in the chat: “YourLogin joined”.
     
     
   • Ask someone in the chat to invite you by executing command /add YourLogin in that chat or using the button “Add people”. If the participant did everything correctly, the following message appears in the chat room: “ParticipantLogin added YourLogin”.
   
   
2. Become the administrator.
   After you have rejoined the group chat, you can become its administrator using one of the following methods:
   • If you have the ability to send instant messages, execute command /setrole YourLogin ADMIN in your chat. If everything turned out, the following message will appear in the chat: “YourLogin has been promoted to conversation host”. However, this method does not work if there are other administrators in the chat (this can be verified using the command /showmembers).
     
     
   • If there are other administrators in the chat, ask one of them to assign you the administrator role with the command /setrole YourLogin ADMIN. If he did everything right, the following message appears in the chat room: “YourLogin has been promoted to conversation host”.

Instead of concluding, it is important to note a few things:

• You will be able to restore administrator role on your own, only if you can join the chat yourself, have the ability to write messages and no administrator has been assigned to the chat.
  
  
• If you were the only administrator, after leaving the chat, any member can independently obtain administrator privileges in the above way. Therefore, if you left the chat accidentally, I recommend not to hesitate and restore admin role as soon as possible.
