Remarkable features of Skype

Skype Classic for Windows

Skype Classic for Windows, also known as Skype for Windows desktop or old Skype for Windows, offers the widest range of features, and is officially supported on all popular Windows operating systems (i.e., Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10).

By classic Skype is now meant Skype 7, but “veterans” say that the classic version is 3.8 or 4.2. Others have in mind 6.16 and below (as they may be deobfuscated) or 6.21 (the last version of the “old school” design).

It is important to note that the Skype Translator is no longer supported in classical Skype. If you need this feature, download the new Skype for Windows (that is, Skype 8).

Skype Classic Versions

The table lists all versions of the classic Skype downloaded from the official site. To download the classic Skype, click on the number of the desired version and go to the download page. Please note that officially are supported only versions 7.31 and higher.

Hello! As I wrote here, unfortunately, users will no longer be able to use Skype on Windows XP and Windows Vista. It seems that the developers plan to completely stop supporting these operating systems.

is this confirmed , i asked this on theyr support page , and get this answer :

Microsoft has not provided any official statement regarding when support will end. Windows XP support ended in April of 2014 and you notice its still supported on that OS. So, when Microsoft decides to end support, you will be notified in time.

i hope despite microsoft will no longer support skype on vista for example for bug fixes , the program will still work...

thank you very much for the answer

I'm willing to bet that the one who answered you just did not know anything about this. People already are notified by Skype bot that they should upgrade. On the page to which they refer, it is clearly stated that support will be discontinued in September 2018.

I like the classic Skype, and I can well understand your concerns, but your hopes are in vain. I'm pretty sure that, like in other similar situations, developers will never change their mind.

Well, that's funny. But I would trust the official FAQ.

Skype was acting up last night and today. When I was not using the computer, it would show the spinning icon and say connecting. If I started using the computer it would go away within a minute. So I decided to check for updates. You know I prefer classic skype over the new garbage.

Well version 8 is being forced out to Classic Skype users now. :-(

It said an update was available and so I clicked to update thinking it would just be updating my Classic version... But it updated it to v8.

I am officially done with skype. Microsoft has turned another great serivce to trash. They should of stuck to OS development.

By the way, I still use classic Skype, and it works properly.
