As of 31-Jan version 7.40.0.151 started trying to force the upgrade to version 8. Colleagues using older versions had been forced onto 8 a while back. Using 7.41.32.101 seems to have bought more time and is working fine. No doubt only a matter of weeks until the inevitable, but sanity preserved for a while longer.

Tested it right now and it works. To help you, please check access to Skype using Internet Explorer and provide URL of the report.

all good but one: www.skype.net Server is temporarily unavailable

It seems that www.skype.net is down, so the error is not on your side and surely not related to your "connecting" issue.

As for the test results, everything looks fine, so your next move is to make sure that you can log in to Skype using same account on another device or via Skype for Web. If you are able to log in, try to reset the Skype settings.

Yes, this time it worked. So there was something messed up with my skype settings.
    Thank you.
Do you think I could go back to SkypeSetup7_41_0_101 or just keep it low profile and hope they won't shut 7.41.32.101 too?

Glad this fixed your problem. As for 7.41.0.101, no, it won't work, because it will force you to Update Skype today.

At the moment, Skype 7.41.32.101 is the only classic version that works without problems on most operating systems. But do not wait for magic, sooner or later it will be disabled too.

Thank you. No magic expected. Just trying to get as little crap from the big companies as possible. Otherwise, I'm not 15, I know nothing's eternal. Still enjoying the moment :)

7.41.32.101 is now technically dead - it can logon, but it cant connect to the contact/conversation servers

7.36.0.150 XP version - same thing

7.36.x mobile versions are able to logon and converse

Sadly it looks like this version of Skype no longer works, everyone is showing as offline and its stuck on "connecting...." so looks like no more Classic Skype as a whole :'(

I spoke too soon, it was a known issue apparently and fixed itself afterwards.

      Hi all

Does anyone else have a problem right now where you add a contact and it shows they have accepted the request but it still says "Messaging disabled until request is accepted" so I can't respond to them, and it still has the grey question mark icon next to the persons name...

I can message them on Skype 8 via my tablet though, but still, I want to be able to message them via Skype 7 on my PC...

7.41.32.101 - dead at work, still working at home. I tried reinstalling it again, worked last time, not this time - forces me to upgrade to 8.42.060 - bye bye split view, can't even access Help -> About, now to see the version, you have to go through all the settings... HORRIBLE...

Reporting the same issue with the eternal connection after login(versions 7.36.0.101, 7-40-0-104, 7.41.32.101). Looks like even the business version does not work properly anymore. Is it over now? Would like to get the confirmation just in case there is still a chance to use a convenient version(tried to reset settings and tested Skype access with everything being green).

Until today. Now it's back to connecting forever, both at home and at work (2 win 7 PCs). And this time the reset procedure didn't have any effect - still Connecting...

    [Updated ]
Now it's back on again, on both PCs at the same time. So it's something to do with skype servers/developers, not with my client installations.

Just an alert for people. As of today, something in addition to using this specific version is needed: logging in via the command-line using the /u and /p switches for username and password.

    So, like:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /minimized /username=whatever /password=passhere

This version still works for me on 2 different Windows 7 PC's with 2 different internet providers without problems. Hopefully as long as possible.

I have the latest version of Skype (8.41, downloaded via microsoft store) and it has the same "Connecting" forever issue. I've tried everything: fixing, resetting, unistalling, EVERYTHING. I get people's messages but they don't get mine. Help!

    [Updated ]
Update: I fixed it by turning off the antivirus. It suddenly got fixed, and then when I turned the antivirus back on, it continued to work fine. I have AVG antivirus.

As of April 9, I am receiving "Update now to continue using Skype" even using this version. Is any remedy known?

Someone told me that it helped him uninstalling Skype and removing all Skype entries from registry. However, I do not think you can use Skype 7 anymore.

Hello! Unfortunately, Microsoft has disabled Skype 7 and users cannot use it anymore on any operating systems.

It's still working on one of my two computers. For the life of me, I can't figure out what the difference is.

This is because your authorization session has not expired yet. It will expire in a maximum of 30 days, and after that you will not be able to log in anymore.
