If you are unable to update an unsupported device or operating system, use Skype for browser as a workaround.

The third party stores still sell such devices (for example, Skype phones or Windows RT devices), but Skype will not work. Therefore, if you need a working Skype, do not buy the devices listed above.

Each technology has its pros and cons. Cloud allows to send messages and files to offline contacts, protect privacy (I mean that your contacts do not know your IP), synchronize conversation between devices, reduce the load on the user’s device.

On other hand P2P is faster than «cloud» (this is especially noticeable at file transfers), but the disadvantage is that both contacts must be always online. Nevertheless, in most cases (for example, while chatting) the speed difference will not be felt.
