Internet Explorer 11 (also known as MSIE11 and IE11) — is the eleventh and final version of the browser Internet Explorer developed by Microsoft. For the first time this version became available June 26, 2013 and was intended to replace Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8.1. A month later, IE11 also became available for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. About 2 years later (exactly July 29, 2015) was released the 11.0.10240.16384 version, which allows you to install Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10.

Today, IE11 is the latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10, and since this browser is an important component of the Windows, for properly working of operating system and other applications, it is strongly recommended that you install Internet Explorer 11. It is worth noting, that Internet Explorer 12 will not released out — in its place came the browser Microsoft Edge, but it is available only for Windows 10.

If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, download the installer IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe. It should still be noted that when you install Internet Explorer 11 will be installed all necessary updates for the browser to work properly.

How to install Internet Explorer 11

First, make sure that you are using Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10.
Download installer IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe — this is the official English installer of Internet Explorer 11. Then, run the installer by double-clicking on it.
Installing Internet Explorer 11 does not require any action by the user — just need to wait until installers does setup and update the system. In some cases, IE11 may require access to the Internet in order to download additional files.
Once installation is complete, be sure to restart your computer.

Wrong version of Internet Explorer installer

If the following error appears during browser installation «Wrong version of Internet Explorer installer. This version of setup doesn't support your Windows system type (32-bit/64-bit)», means you have 32-bit version of the OS and to install Internet Explorer 11, you need to download file IE11-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe.

Not a valid Win32 application

If running installer you encounter the following error «IE-REDIST.EXE is not a valid Win32 application», you’re using an older version of operating systems. Please mind that IE11 is supported only by Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. For Windows XP should be used Internet Explorer 8, while for Windows Vista — Internet Explorer 9.

Internet Explorer 11 is available in the following languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch , English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian. I had to reinstall windows 7 from my original DVD which was purchased at Microsoft. After installation, I could not install anything. I have tried on and off for several days. I have visited Microsoft download pages not finding any solution. Your solution helped right away to solve the problem with windows installer. Thank you very much.
However, I am very disappointed about Microsoft Corporation not coming with such a solution first and advertising it so everybody can see it. I am sure there is a way if there is a will. They definitely push their solutions where they want to. Or, are they getting suddenly Micro and Soft??

  Hi Vladimir! I'm very happy that my guideline helped you to fix the problem. If I understood correctly, you are talking about the Cannot find or load Microsoft Installer error. Anyway, I have no idea why Microsoft didn’t published an official solution firstly, but I believe that first of all they are focused on issues that affects most users, or at least users which keep up minimal requirements. In this case Skype requires Internet Explorer 11, but some users don’t know about this or just ignore it. In my opinion, the biggest problem is that error message mislead users. It would be much better if Skype had warned users that "Internet Explorer is outdated. Please install Internet Explorer 11. You can download it from this %URL%".

    Thank you for your answer. However, it was not just Skype that I was not able to install. XAMPP for PHP would not install either. I did not keep track of few other programs that I was not able to install. Basically, my computer was stuck. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge. However, I still think that Microsoft Corporation should do MUCH MORE for their loyal windows users.

Thanks for this informative and helpful site. Unfortunately, when I tried to update IE 11 per your link above, I received: "Operating system is not supported You need windows 7sp1 or server 2008 R2 sp1 to install IE 11" I think Windows 7 "Ultimate"(?) is installed. Suggestions?

      Error makes it clear that it is necessary to install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

Thanks for the great solution.
But while installing the IE11 it asks to manually download some updates from the Microsoft website.
Is it normal? And since you said the application downloads everything on its own why is it not working for my case?

  I said that Internet Explorer install all required updates for Skype, but not for IE. In its turn, Internet Explorer also have some requirements and seems your system don’t meet them. So don’t worry and install all required updates manually or enable Automatic Updates in Windows.

Hello! i have a problem when installing this IE..
after the installation succesfull and restarting, there's an error when in the "Welcome" screen.. its written like "Windows Update failure, reverting the change updates" after 35% of updates on windows.
Can anyone explain me what happened and how to fix that ?
