Remarkable features of Skype

Internet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer 8 (also known as MSIE8 and IE8) — is the eighth version of Internet Explorer browser, developed by Microsoft. This version became available on March 19, 2009 and was intended to replace Internet Explorer 7 in such operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Later that same year, the IE8 became as the default browser for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

But the most important thing to note is the fact that IE8 is the latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP and for the proper operation of the operating system and various applications, on Windows XP must be installed Internet Explorer 8. The fact that Internet Explorer is an essential component of the Windows operating system and most of the functions are directly dependent on this browser, even if you set as default browser another one.

The fact that many users complain that when you try to download IE 8 for Windows XP from official site, the following warning message appears: Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with your system.

How to install Internet Explorer 8?

  1. First, make sure that you have installed Service Pack 3. If not, first of all you must upgrade to Windows XP SP3.

  2. Download installer IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe — this is official English installer of Internet Explorer 8. Then, run the installer by double-clicking on it.

  3. The first thing you need to configure is to agree if we want to help improve the Internet Explorer, or don't want to participate in this program. This does not affect the progress of the installation, so choose at your own discretion.

  4. After that, be sure to tick the option “Install updates”. This is necessary in order to install Windows and Internet Explorer updates, as well as the Malicious Software Removal Tool which increase the protection against computer security threats. Malicious Software Removal Tool will be launched during installation to detect and remove known malware.

ATTENTION! If the browser is not installed for a long time or there are connection errors, abort the installation and run the installer again, but this time do not tick the “Install updates” checkbox.

  5. During the installation of the main components of Windows Internet Explorer, your computer will be scanned against malware, as well as install Internet Explorer 8 and Windows updates. At the end of this process, you will receive a message that Internet Explorer installation is complete and you need to restart your computer.

  6. As Internet Explorer will update files that may be used at the moment, you must restart the computer after the installation is complete. This ensures the correct update of all the files and complete the installation of the IE8. To do this, click the "Restart Now".

What does IE8 to Skype?

As with many other programs, Skype’s operation is directly dependent on the Internet Explorer browser, which in our case is used not only to system functions, but even for the authorization form, to preview and send images, to show homepage, advertisements or feedback form, to setup proxy settings, cookie data, and more. That’s why, if you want to Skype for Windows XP worked without errors, you need to download and install Internet Explorer 8.

Why IE8 is not suitable for my system?

If during installation of the browser the following error occurs: "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system", most likely: either you are trying to install the browser on a newer operating system than Windows XP, or your Windows XP does not have installed the Service Pack 3. Must be remembered that for Windows Vista should be installed Internet Explorer 9, while for Windows 7, 8 and 10 — Internet Explorer 11.

Apparently the author forgets XP does not support AES 256, an essential component for Skype/IE8 to work.

Would be nice if the muppets at MS could offer an alternative to hacking the XP system files that is now necessary to fix this.

Why is Skype dependent on IE8, anyway.

Hi! As far as I know, in most cases Skype will work without AES 256. Anyway, if it doesn't, I found a way how to enable it even on Windows XP. If you're interested in this, please read AES-256 for Windows XP and let me know if you find it useful.
