If the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 package is not installed on the computer or system libraries are corrupted/missing, starting Skype 7.33.0.104 for Windows will raise the following error:
The program can’t start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer
The program can’t start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer.
Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Alternatively, instead of the above error may occur the following one:
The procedure entry point ucrtbase.terminate could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll

Manual solution

The easiest way to solve this error, download the archive api-ms-win.zip extract all the files in the installation folder of Skype. For example:
  • For 32-bit systems: C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone
  • For 64-bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone

Automatic solution

The fastest way — download and launch script autofix_api_ms_win.vbs

      It may be because you put the files in the wrong place. There is a misprint in the article. It SHOULD state as follows:

      For 32-bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone
      For 64-bit systems: C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone

      The author had it the wrong wsy round.
