Remarkable features of Skype

Cookies must be allowed to log in to Skype

Some users, when trying to log in to Skype for the Windows, face with an error, according to which, for the successful authorization you should activate the function of working with cookies in the browser.
Cookies must be allowed Cookies must be allowed
Your browser is currently set to block cookies. Your browser must allow cookies before you can use a Microsoft account. Cookies are small text files stored on your computer that tell Microsoft sites and services when you're signed in. To learn how to allow cookies, see online help in your web browser.

Since not all users know that Skype for Windows uses the functions of Internet Explorer to display Web content, they check the settings and enable cookies in the browser (that is, one that is always used to visit web sites). But as you understand, it doesn’t eliminate the error, and once you try to enter Skype, the demand that you should permit working with cookie files appears again.

Solution

To resolve this issue and resume the Skype operability, you should turn off the blocking of cookie files in Internet Explorer. Do it as follows:
  1. Close Skype
  2. Run Internet Explorer
  3. Open the menu “Tools” (in newer versions of IE, the gear icon)
  4. Select “Browser Properties” (in older versions of IE, “Internet Options”)
  5. Open the tab “Privacy” and click “Advanced”
  6. Put boxes next to the following options:
    • Accept “First-party cookies”
    • Enable “Third-party cookie files”
    • Always allow session cookies
  7. Close Internet Explorer and run Skype

What to do if the problem is not solved?

If the above instructions haven’t helped to solve the problem of cookie files when logging into Skype, try to reset Internet Explorer settings.

As always, I wait for your feedback and questions in the comments (of course, if something doesn’t work, specify your operating system and Internet Explorer version).

Great article. My colleague isn't really good at finding information, but i am. He has been struggling with this all morning and I (you) fixed it after a five minute google search.Since i got me some praise its only right i send some to you. You also possibly prevented a melt down, as my colleague doesn't seem to deal with stress too well. LMAO. Thanks again and I know others will find this useful.

    Cheers,

This fix certainly looks right, but it didn't solve my problem. Skype has already placed cookies on my computer so I can only guess that the error message is erroneous and something else is causing the problem.

Hi Ricky! Have you tried to reset Internet Explorer settings? And what you mean by «Skype has already placed cookies»?

    Hi
I have Firefox and safari browsers.Cookies are allowed on both browsers.
I don't have Internet explorer. but Skype insists that I am not allowing cookies.
Tried many alternatives now it's time to vote with my feet/mouse.

    Administrator,

This explanation and solution worked perfectly. Thank you for saving the day. MS and Skype are not always clear about how to solve their problems. Well done!

Hi! Please note that Skype uses IE functions, therefore I recommend once again to read the article carefully.

Something to try before using the nuclear option (resetting IE) is: with Skype still closed, go to Internet Options again, General tab, Browsing history, Delete. There, uncheck everything but "Temporary Internet files and website files" and then click Delete.
